Dell literally makes hearts beat faster with the new Alienware AW2524H gaming monitor. At CES in Las Vegas, we took a look at how the display performs in practice.

The refresh rates of gaming monitors have been skyrocketing for several years. This also has to do with the increased demands of (prospective) e-athletes. In order to gain the decisive advantage in the heat of Fortnite, Counter-Strike or PUBG combat, the last millisecond of reaction time is what counts.

Alienware AW2524H: Intended for professionals

And the Alienware AW2524H is aimed precisely at this faction. It offers native 480 Hz on a diagonal of 24.5 inches (90 PPI). As is typical for gaming, the resolution of 1920×1080 pixels is limited to Full HD in order to focus on the frame rates. The 500 Hz are then reached on the Fast IPS panel via an overclocking feature. However, these are only possible via the built-in DisplayPort connection.

On the other hand, you can “only” gamble at 240 Hz via the other two HDMI 2.0 ports. Otherwise, the Alienware AW2524H also offers two USB ports according to the 3.2 Gen.1 standard in the downstream and one for the upstream. This allows you to connect gaming headsets or microphones with a built-in DAC.

On the other hand, there are two jack connections for analogue audio peripherals. In addition, the back then comes up with the obligatory RGB bling bling, which in the case of the AW2524H is represented by a glowing Alienware logo and an ES (e-sports) symbol.

Makes a good first impression, price not yet known

At first glance, the AW2524H makes a really good impression. Important ergonomic functions are on board and the workmanship is also right. With a maximum of 400 cd/m², it also gets really bright and, according to Dell, covers 99% of the important sRGB color space. G-Sync, HDR400 and Co. are also on board as important features.

The only preliminary point of criticism on our part: In order to be able to use the high frame rates with your gaming laptop via HDMI, the AW2524H would have looked good with the newer 2.1 standard.

The Alienware monitor is expected to hit the market in China at the beginning of February. Then it might be possible to make initial assessments for the release in our latitudes. Details about the price are still missing, as is information about a European launch.

What do you think of the Hz-strong gamer? Do you already see yourself as a coming e-sports star or do high Hz numbers leave you cold?
