The Nothing Phone (2) will be released later this year, the successor to last year’s Phone (1). The device must be ‘more premium’ than its predecessor.
Nothing Phone (2) in 2023
Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing, late in an interview with website Inverse know that the Nothing Phone (2) will be released later this year. The CEO (and also co-founder of OnePlus) does not want to say much about the upcoming smartphone, but does say that the Phone (2) will be more premium than the Phone (1).
Whether this means that the device will get faster hardware, Pei leaves in the middle. The Nothing Phone (1), which was released last year, is a mid-range device with excellent specifications, but not a real flagship. For example, the phone cannot quite compete with the top devices from Samsung, Google and OnePlus.
Furthermore, Carl Pei indicates that the Nothing Phone (2) should also appear in the United States and that the company will also focus strongly on improving the software. As a result, the Phone (2) should feel faster and more pleasant to use than the company’s first smartphone. However, the CEO does not provide details.
Nothing Phone (1): phone with lights on the back
The Nothing Phone (1) has been available in the Netherlands since July 2022. The smartphone has a suggested retail price of 469 euros, but now costs around 400 euros. The smartphone is particularly notable for its design. For example, the back has 900 built-in LEDs that light up when you receive a notification or when you put the phone on the charger.
On the front is a 6.55-inch OLED screen with a thin, symmetrical bezel. The resolution is 2400 by 1080 pixels and the high refresh rate of 120Hz ensures smooth animations. The Nothing Phone (1) takes photos with the double camera on the back. The main camera and wide-angle lens both have a resolution of 50 megapixels.
