At the beginning of August, WhatsApp announced a feature to hide your online status and that is now slowly rolling out. In addition, it becomes more convenient to import local backups of chat conversations on your new device.

WhatsApp is the most popular messenger here and is therefore regularly provided with useful updates. Hiding your online status is one such feature that was previously announced and is now rolling out to a small group of people. That was spotted by website WABeta Info an authority on the chat app.

If you are a tester of the app, you may already have the option to hide your status. Just dive into the settings and choose ‘account’. Tap ‘privacy’ and ‘last seen’. Some users now see a new option to set who can see that you are online. For the time being, you will be presented with two choices: everyone or the same group of people as you have set in ‘Last seen’.

The website mentions that the feature has been spotted among users of version, but that it does not know when the major rollout for everyone will take place. If you also want to get started with test versions of WhatsApp, sign up as a beta tester. This means you can always be the first to get started with new possibilities.

Importing local backups just got easier

In another post on WABeta Info there is also talk of local backups of chat conversations, which are even nicer to import. This way you don’t necessarily have to get started with your Google Drive backup. When you start using a new phone, you will be asked if you want to restore a local backup file.

Nice of course, because not everyone is a fan of Google or it could just be that you lose access to that account. Rumors have also been circulating for some time that the size of those backups will be limited in terms of storage size.
