True to their name, the fan editions of the Samsung Galaxy S series have quickly become fan favourites. Although the price-performance versions of Samsung’s top models have only been around for two generations, the combination of high-performance Snapdragon processor, strong display and versatile cameras has convinced us in both tests (S20 FE & S21 FE) so far.
Accordingly, we were excited about the new fan edition of the Samsung Galaxy S22. But this could never appear. Because according to the Samsung specialists from SamMobile, the sales figures for the S21 FE should not have met Samsung’s expectations. After all, it came onto the market almost at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy S22 and was priced too close to it with an RRP of 719 euros. It is now available* for a very good 535 euros, but apparently the lower price is not enough to convince enough people.
According to SamMobile, the proposed version number of the S22 FE “SM-900” does not even exist. So far there have also been no leaks – which are considered good manners with Samsung smartphones. For comparison: Last year we had already seen the first render shots of the S21 FE – even if it was only supposed to be released six months later. Several sources then reported independently that the model series had been discontinued.
Maybe Samsung is also afraid that the Fan Edition cannibalizes the classic S model. After all, the FEs get updates for just as long, offer a little more performance thanks to the Snapdragon processor – and cost less.
However, there were similar rumors about the discontinuation of the previous model, which is why we don’t want to completely give up hope that a fan edition could appear late again.
