Vivo V25 5G Review : More Than “Just A Color-Changing Phone” | Tech Reviews

During this last year, Vivo showed me that it is a brand that takes its target market seriously. Solvency, disruptive products, with careful software and even with credentials in the premium range to challenge anyone. I liked the V21 a lot , and the next generation V25 has matured, but is it really worth it?

Vivo V25 5G: a “mutant” design

The distinctive design comes in two tones. This equipment comes with a cover built under fluorite glass, a mineral that changes color when it comes into contact with ultraviolet light, a technique that the Chinese have already taken advantage of in the previous generation V23.

With this, the style is maintained under the color “Sunrise Gold” that exaggerates the orange tone of the back cover and various designs can be applied when “tanning” the smartphone in the sun. Funny.

To the right of the panel we find the lock and volume buttons

Beyond that, the Vivo V25 shows straight edges, adding the USB-C port between the speaker and the dual SIM/SD tray at the bottom, while the volume and lock buttons are accommodated on the right side.

In addition to the color change, the V25 sports a prominent lens arrangement accompanied by a duotone LED flash. In practical terms, it has a very “fruity” design, if the analogy fits.

Yes, it is evident that we are aiming for the mid-range, but it is still striking that we are facing the same panel as the V21 and V23, with the exception that we have a little more nits – 1300 maximum in specs – although they fail to stand out in direct light.

En colores y ángulos de visión, el V25 se mantiene sin sobresaltos
In colors and viewing angles, the V25 remains smooth

Above that detail, the colors look good, the tactile response is as expected – except for the corner for WhatsApp messages that had me activating the Google assistant – and the AOD is customizable.

Vivo V25 5G: Good-looking software

Tenemos funtouchOS 12 corriendo sobre Android 12
We have funtouchOS 12 running on Android 12

Yes, funtouchOS again and its polished aesthetic lights up our eyes under Android 12. It works very well, in general terms, and replicates the experience of the X80 Pro in almost everything. And I say almost everything for some details.

La interfaz sigue siendo una de las más cuidadas en Android
The interface is still one of the most careful in Android

The interface looks clean and neat, with quick access and extensive customization capabilities, but navigation omits a sweep to move between apps in multitasking. To switch apps, you have to move your finger up, down the app and switch to the next one. It seems strange to me that only in the Vivo X80 Pro I had that gesture and not in other teams.

Beyond that, we find the usual: virtualized RAM that we can deactivate, ultra game mode and the animated effects tab to modify nooks and crannies of the environment. A Vivo phone that keeps everything we’ve seen.

The system is responsive to gestures, and adds widget shortcuts from the app drawer

What if the equipment fails is to recognize the screen orientation. The equipment almost never picked up the angle correctly, and I have had photos that have not been able to rotate with the lens due to these failures. I hope they patch that up, which is disappointing at this point for a brand like Vivo.

Vivo V25 5G: Cameras within the average

We are a bit far from the majestic experience of the X80 Pro that we tested a few months ago, and we focus on the operation of lenses closer to the range in which this terminal competes. For starters, we’re keeping the 64 MP lens with OIS from the V21, but a micron more in size that delivers good photos under decent lighting conditions. Even with little zoom, we look good.

The 8 MP wide-angle lens and 120 degrees of vision also repeats its place, with the results almost identical. In this case, the night does not help much.

For the selfie, we went from 44 to 50 MP with AF, an addition that allows you to play with sharper shots and frames with better depth of field. With colors it works well, but at night it suffers just like the rest of the lenses.

It doesn’t take much distance from the V21, which was also within average. This is how we must analyze this team in this section.

Vivo V25 5G: An acceptable performance

Yep, it doesn’t fall far behind the V21 at this point either, as the 6-nanometer MediaTek 900 processor boasts the same 2.8GHz of peak power as the 800U in last year’s model. Solvent, and with enough space to open heavy environments without suffering so much, thanks to its 8GB of RAM – remember that virtual RAM is active by default -.

In the case of connectivity, we handle the same parameter as other equipment that maintains its 5G quota between 150 and 200 Mbps. In the case of WIFi and Bluetooth, without stability problems.

El sensor de huellas dactilares va bien, dentro de lo esperado en la gama
The fingerprint sensor is doing well, as expected in the range

Multimedia is limited by the absence of stereo speakers, and having a speaker that forgets the bass from 70% of the volume. The good thing is that your notifications will not go unnoticed: it sounds loud. The fingerprint sensor under the screen is like the rest of its category, without much failure. Its easy recognition is fast and more efficient than the optical reader for your fingers.

La personalización de la experiencia es my buena
The personalization of the experience is very good

Yes, an average phone that does not stand out for its power in this area, but that does bet on stability – if they manage to fix the bugs, of course – to give the user reliable equipment.

Vivo V25 5G: Great Battery

This is the 44W charger that is included in the box

Nobody takes this merit away from the V25 5G. Its 4500 already represent an obvious differential compared to previous models, giving quotas of 6 hours of screen time and with residuals of 30% before going to sleep after being away from a connector from 6am and 10pm. Phenomenal.

Tiempo de uso: entre 6 y 7 horas de pantalla de manera regular con uso promedio
Usage time: 6-7 hours of screen time on a regular basis with average usage

In addition, having a 44W charger helps us not wait so long to take the equipment everywhere. 66% in half an hour, and 100% on the hour, give us tremendous leeway for our activities away from the charger.

Vivo V25 5G: Is it worth it?

El V25 es un buen teléfono, pero con pocos diferenciales frente a la competencia
The V25 is a good phone, but with few differentials compared to the competition

I am concerned about the number of bugs I had in the user experience, something that had not happened to me with others from the company. However, I hope they will be resolved for the benefit of a successful experience. Be careful, I liked the team, and I think it has enough potential to be in your gig, but it already depends on Vivo and his ability to refine details. IP54 protection, 44W charging, focused selfie and a chameleon phone are arguments that define this team. Beyond, it is an average phone and it is appreciated.
