Larger companies usually use several different e-mail addresses and of course do not want a support request to be sent to the general address or a query about advertising costs to the technical support department.

For this reason, you will usually find a real contact address or a link to a contact page at the end of the newsletter, which you can use for direct communication.

Basically, you decide which e-mail address is used as the outgoing address in a program such as Thunderbird or Outlook. It doesn’t even have to be the e-mail address from which you send your e-mails.

Or to put it another way:

  • You can use the account mü[email protected] and also register on the e-mail server with this address.
  • Nevertheless you can a completely different sender address in the mail program specify.
  • This can be something like [email protected] be.
  • That’s what you use it for reply to function of your e-mail program, which you can also “reply address” names.

In Thunderbird you can set up a noreply address like this:

  1. Starts Thunderbird and click on your account name.
  2. Top right of the window you will find the link “Account Settings“. Click on it to open it.
  3. In the section “default identity“ you will find the (empty) field “reply address“. This is usually intended Specify an address to which replies should go, instead of reaching you. For example a support department or the antechamber.
  4. For example, write “[email protected]” a.

From now on, your mails will continue to go through your normal account, but the recipients will see this noreply address as the sender.

As you can see, when Thunderbird tries to reply, it recognizes that it is probably a dead end and warns you before sending.

You should only use this if you don’t want or expect any replies and empty the field immediately after sending.
